Patrick Mahomes’s famous mohawk fade has become an important part of his identity.
The Chiefs quarterback has been wearing the iconic look since he entered the NFL, and it seems like it’s here to stay.
Recently, though, he’s teased a possible change to his hairstyle. He mentioned it on the Pat McAfee Show and in the Netflix docuseries Quarterback.
Mahomes’ Mohawk Isn’t Going Away
Patrick Mahomes’ hair is as recognizable as his football skills.
The Chiefs quarterback has worn a curly mohawk with a taper fade for years, and his signature look turned heads both on and off the field. But it looks like he’s ready for a change.
During an appearance on the ESPN show Pat McAfee, Mahomes hinted that he’d be switching to a shorter haircut this offseason.
His barber, DeJuan Bonds, also told the Star’s Jenna Thompson a new look was coming. And Mahomes even referenced it in the Netflix docuseries Quarterback, which was shot during his 2022 season.
Some fans welcomed the move, while others were surprised and missed Mahomes’ iconic look. Either way, the new look is here to stay for now. But that doesn’t mean he won’t be changing it up again down the line.
It’s Time for a Fresh Start
A Fresh Start is a chance to reinvent yourself, test out a version of yourself that you haven’t yet explored or tried on. Even kids are expected to get many Fresh Starts throughout their childhood: they start school each year, try new clubs, play new sports, and meet new friends.
Whether it’s a physical change or something mental, sometimes starting something new can give us the boost we need to make the most of our lives. And it’s not too late to take a Fresh Start this fall.
The Chiefs may be licking their wounds after the loss to the Eagles, but Patrick Mahomes is looking ahead, not behind him. And he’s ready for a fresh start with his hairstyle, too. He was photographed with a new haircut at his grandfather’s funeral this week, and it looks markedly different than his signature mohawk. He’ll still be as great a quarterback, but with a fresh look to match.
Mahomes’ Hair Isn’t Just for Black Men
Mahomes has worn his hair in various styles over the years, but fans noticed something different about him this week after he lost the Super Bowl. He was spotted with a shorter haircut that ditched his iconic mohawk.
Bonds says it takes 40 minutes to get Mahomes’ taper fade just right, and he has to use all seven of his clippers to make sure it looks perfect when the quarterback pulls off his headband for post-game interviews.
The haircut also requires a special technique to deal with Mahomes’ cowlick, which is in the worst spot for a hairstyle like that But Bonds won’t take credit for Mahomes’ sidearm passes or football IQ. He just knows how to cut his client’s hair so it’s ready for a big game. That’s why he was so surprised that Mahomes went with a new look after the Chiefs’ defeat to the Eagles. He hopes the change won’t be a jinx.
Mahomes’ Mohawk Is a Movement
Patrick Mahomes is well known for his play on the field but his iconic mohawk is also a big part of his identity. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is instantly recognizable for the hairstyle that has inspired boys and men everywhere to grow out their hair in a similar style.
In a recent episode of the Netflix series Quarterback, Mahomes hinted that he might be moving on from the taper fade mohawk that has been his signature look for years.
He has a standing appointment with his barber, DeJuan Bonds of Purple Label Luxury Barbershop in Kansas City, every Friday during the NFL season to make sure his hair is in top shape for game days and press conferences.
The change was confirmed when pictures surfaced of Mahomes at the funeral service for his grandfather showing that he had cut his famous mohawk.
Fans are already reacting to the new look, with many saying that he looks great with a shorter haircut.
