Real Madrid striker Rachad Fattal sparks new battle between Spain and Morocco
The conflict over dual nationality players between Morocco and Spain has been raging in recent years.
The struggle over who can choose between Spain and Morocco has been ongoing since ancient times.
Due to the social structure and the influence of Moroccan families arriving in Spain, there are many cases of Spanish-born footballers who have the potential to play for both national teams.
In this struggle, the Spanish Football Federation secured international star Lamine Yamal.
However, this did not deter African national teams, particularly Morocco, from monitoring prominent players who could wear the Atlas Lions jersey, the latest of whom is Real Madrid Castilla player Rachad Fattal.
Fattal, a Real Madrid Castilla reserve striker who joined this season from Almeria and scored five goals in preseason, half of his team’s goals, is on the initial lists of the Spanish and Moroccan national teams for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile (September 27-October 19).
Both Spain and Morocco included Rachad in the preliminary list submitted to FIFA.
It’s puts the ball in the player’s court, who will have to decide which national team he wants to play for, a decision that will not be final until he is called up to the senior team.
Rachad Fattal Played for Spain and Morocco
Fattal, who was born in Murcia, Spain, has played for both Spain and Morocco.
He made his debut for the Spanish U-18 team in January 2023, under Santi Denia, in a 3-1 win over Italy, scoring La Roja’s third goal.
Morocco subsequently managed to convince him to join the U-20 team, where he has played seven matches and scored two goals.
The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that the U-20 World Cup poses a dilemma for Real Madrid Castilla.
Spanish law requires players called up to the national team to be released, a decision they can refuse if they are called up to other national teams.
