What’s In For Spring Summer Fall and Winter 2025/26
Fashion seasons dictate what you see on store shelves months in advance. Breezy fabrics and activewear come out for Spring/Summer, while coats, sweaters, and layered outfits appear in Autumn/Winter collections.
Some designers embraced collegiate style this season, with oversized obi belts and skinny chain belts at Brandon Maxwell, Isabel Marant, Christopher Esber and Schiaparelli. Others piled on the outerwear, with drapey navy wool coats from Altuzarra and Calvin Klein, or lace-up riding boots at MKDT Studio.
Minimalism
While some of the most high-profile trends on the runways were riots of texture and print, minimalist looks also made a big impression. Leather was everywhere — model after model in long jackets at Kallmeyer and Tom Ford, belted coats at Acne Studios and Eckhaus Latta, luxe bombers at Fendi and Hermes. A slew of heritage plaids and checks appeared across the board, with styles that looked sturdy enough for country chores (think: earthy tartans at Ralph Lauren and Isabel Marant, full skirts at YSL and Tory Burch).
Lace, too, dotted many collections, evoking a gothic sense of romance (and a touch of sexiness) in nipped-in peplum shapes at Simone Bellotti, drop shoulders at Bally and Stella McCartney, and ’80s oversize at Zimmermann and Tory Burch. This reinterpretation of the classics feels fresh and new, particularly when styled with masculine accessories like ties and leather belts. The result is a look that brings confidence and status back to the closet, in a subtle and streamlined way.
Faux Fur
One of the more obvious fashion trends that’s a big hit both with high-end designers and at-home sewists alike, faux fur is a cruelty-free staple with versatility that aligns with modern ethical fashion values. From a faux shearling coat layered over silk dresses for a red-carpet look to casual brunch jackets worn with cropped jeans, the fabric’s high pile adds luxe texture that’s difficult to resist.
At the runways during F/W 25 Fashion Week, faux fur made a strong appearance in everything from Shearling blazers at Valentino to squishy suede bags at Acne and Tory Burch (which carried styles slung nonchalantly over the shoulder or folded into a cross-body bag). Elsewhere, Gucci, Ferragamo and Gabriela Hearst favored fur in skirt form, while Miu Miu showcased a 1970s-turned-2015s look featuring slouchy shearling.
Faux fur is especially easy to style when paired with monochromatic outfits, as the fabric’s color will shine through. To wear bold colors with faux fur, choose neutral accessories to complement the silhouette and ensure that the look doesn’t become costume-y. To elevate a faux fur stole for black-tie events, pair it with a sleek dress and high heels.
Riding Boots
Riding boots are a key component in the delicate dance between horse and rider, transmitting subtle cues through heel pressure and leg movements. In addition to their practicality, these footwear staples add an elegant, bespoke look to your riding attire. This season, luxury labels like Gabriela Hearst and Isabel Marant and cultural juggernauts like Bella Hadid embrace the style, introducing wing-tipped silhouettes, shearling linings, and buckled straps.
If you’re not ready to commit to a full-length pair, opt for a shorter style that hugs the legs like a glove. Available in sleek suede and luscious leather, designers from Miu Miu to Herbert Levine offer a variety of options that are ideal for pairing under maxiskirts and midi-dresses.
For a trend-forward spin on the classic footwear, wear yours with a miniskirt, a leather bomber jacket, and sculptural earrings. Whether you want to give off saddle girl vibes or add an air of preppy polish, the versatility of this trend means it can be styled for any occasion.
Grad Student Style
While everyone remembers that era of college life when sweatpants and a branded university sweater would cut it in lecture halls, graduate school requires a little more sophistication. According to Jezebel, you’ll want a wardrobe that prioritizes practicality and flexibility, while adding some style-forward touches.
Earthy plaid, heritage checks and luxuriously thick outerwear all made the mark on fall’s standout runways. Look to Ralph Lauren, Isabel Marant and Patou for classic options. Or try cribbing the rural English aesthetic with long skirts and tartan accessories from Balmain, MKDT Studio or Louis Vuitton.
When it comes to accessories, there was much to love this season – a trend that echoed back to student days. Leather fall boots walked the line between structured and slouchy, courtesy of Rabanne, Balmain, Sacai and Zimmermann. And backless loafers ruled at both Miu Miu and Prada, while lace-up brogues and patent slip-ons added workwear-appropriate flair to eveningwear at Chanel couture, Calvin Klein and Simone Rocha.
